Well done Jane - hope the return goes smoothly. Get lots of rest when you can - maybe a nice kid's film snuggled up on the sofa together. Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle

hello everyone. Day 2 of work.....my new chair is ok, not used to wheels on a chair! I have to jump on once its up against the wall (or it whizzes away)! Got a wrist rest (old one I've had for years) a kensington roller ball mouse. Glad to have steriod injection in two days, knee feels like its burning. Typing is frustrating like dumbo doing ballet. My daughter enjoying her dad looking after her whilst penicillin working its magic on her tonsils! He got peppa pig on his ipad for her!! When I got home, we made necklaces. Hobby craft does lovely childs craft bits and bobs. Tomorrow I'm off all day so we shall watch a film (I'm sure she have a sleep) with the dogs cuddled up on the sofa with us! She said mummy, please don't work anymore! I said I need pennies - she got her purse and gave me 20pence! Bless!

Update: Saw organisation doctor yesterday, he has agreed for me to step up an hour to 6 hours per day - I have been doing 5 hours for a while. Now I'm up to full hours, but he will do a report to say if I'm struggling I can go down to 5 hours because my knee pain and stiffness is awful - have to go for a wonder to exercise my knee, and off I go to have an adventure and bump into different people from other departments I haven't seen for a while! Said to the doctor about pain keeping me awake - he said to go to my gp to ask for sleeping pills. Something I don't want to do because of side effects of being drowsy the next day (not good to be sleepy if I have to drive) I'm very aware of trying to show willing at work by increasing my hours due to going off within the next 13 weeks for knee replacement. Also the organisation uses a work bradford score (when I return back to work from operation I go on an action plan for high sickness) it is all so daft and silly but makes me more vunerable for redundancy pot due to sickness! The organisation doctor said you are covered with disability but not having high sickness record. Never mind I still do the lottery online!!! Jane Xxx

I could be wrong on this but i think it would be illegal to select someone for redundancy on the basis of Bradford points for disability related absences. The Disability Act offers us lots of employment rights.

Hello Naomi & Rich
No its not right the way my employer is, so handy to have a link that you sent on this thread. I have looked on the websites and shall use this to refer to for my information.
I am so happy to be in employment, its the ra and work = trying my very best (if not harder) and politics of chronic illness with the organisation.
Thank you again I really do find it touching to have help from you. Xxx

Just a quick comment for Rich really I just think that even with all the disability acts etc, if your place of work wishes to make you redundant/end your employment they will find a way. I would have loved to stay in my job, but as it was physical, and there was no alternative work I could do I had to leave Its just not that simple...................... BARBARA

I'm lucky that my bosses have been really supportive so far. However we are undergoing a restructuring and i may end up with different managers so watch this space. I agree that bosses can often find ways around the law if they want to get rid of someone. I know that if I ever end up in that position I will fight them all the way and involve the union. I hope it doesn't come to that though. It's so hard for me to hold a job down even with supportive employers so I really feel for people who aren't as lucky. Naomi, XXX

Hi Jane - I do so hope that things work out for you and work. You try so hard in everything you do, it's a joy to read your posts. Just remember that RA means you have to set your priorities (how many spoons have you got?) - you can't do everything (who can?). Have a wonderful Christmas and enjoy your roast (well done to hubby for cooking it, does that mean you'll have to wash up??) Hugs and love - Sylvia xx Be kinder than is necessary because everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle
